Thanks to Gary Mead I was able to notify my bank and credit card company and avert major financial headaches. This intelligent and thoughtful action toward a total stranger is so remarkable and impressive that I just had to blog about it.

The 150 year sentence for Super-Con-Artist Bernard Madoff is a wonderful example of HYPERBOLE (obvious exaggeration) because the 71 year old financier is unlikely to live long enough to serve more than a small fraction of that sentence. This draconian sentence certainly sends a message about the court’s reaction to his MERCENARY (motivated by money or gain) behavior. Madoff DUPED (deceived) his investors out of $65 billion. That kind of AVARICE (greed; inordinate desire for wealth) is hard to imagine. Many of his former investors are now INSOLVENT(bankrupt; unable to pay debts).

Students who took the June SAT will be able to see their scores on the college board website June 25. Click here for the test results after 8 AM Eastern time this Thursday.

Juniors: If you are not thrilled with the results, remember that the majority of colleges will accept scores from the October and November tests even for Early Decision/Early Action, so you still have time to PREPARE and retake the test.

By the way, just taking the test again and again doesn’t do much good. If you don’t understand why your answer is wrong, how will you answer a similar question correctly? Most students need to review grammar, expand their vocabularies, learn more about reading critically, and improve their writing. Even good math students find SAT math strange and challenging. It usually takes longer to raise Writing and Critical Reading scores than Math scores, because verbal skills are actually more complex.

Summer is an excellent time to dig in and prep for the fall tests. We offer the A-Z SAT WordPower System for students who want to prep on their own; we also have individual and group help for students in the Phoenix area; we will soon be providing virtual SAT classes and our SAT Virtual Vocabulary. Click here for details
